Passion & Perseverance on the Slopes

Challenges

I started ski racing when I was 11 years old and have been doing it for over 9 years. Becoming the racer I am today has taken much time and effort.

Balancing Training & Academics

I trained every weekend and often missed school for races and extra weeks of training, which meant constantly catching up on academics while still trying to perform on the slopes.

Setbacks & Serious Injuries

When training for the Western Region Championships in February 2020, I had 2 serious ski accidents. I broke my arm while training and then trained the next day after my arm was casted, against my doctor’s recommendations. I crashed again at a high speed of 55 miles per hour and received a serious concussion. I was prohibited from taking tests at school and was unable to attend the Western Region Championships in 2020.

Learning Resilience & Prioritizing Health

Even though it took a devastating crash to realize, I now know when to stop and do what’s right in a situation. I listened to my doctors after the second crash and took a step back from my academics and training. I had to catch up all of my school work after I was healed and cleared by the doctors, which was a difficult but doable process. I learned to listen to other opinions and prioritize my health - physical and mental. One month later, my bruises and concussion were gone and I had a cleared conscience.
